Microbial launches two new real time PCR-based kits for the detection of pathogenic bacteria in food and environmental samples

Cronofast is a kit for the detection of Cronobacter spp., whereas Bactoplex PIF allows the simultaneous detection of Salmonella spp. and Cronobacter spp.
CRONOFAST
The genus Cronobacter (formerly named Enterobacter sakazakii) encompasses several species considered as emergent foodborne pathogens associated with meningitis, septicaemia and necrotizing enterocolitis outbreaks, especially in newborn and children, with high mortality rates (between 20 and 80%). Furthermore, the survivors often suffer from serious neurological disorders.
BACTOPLEX PIF
Powdered infant formula (PIF) requires the detection of both Salmonella spp. and Cronobacter spp. To date, these two bacteria should be analysed separately, either using classic microbiology methods or molecular methods like PCR or immunology. Bactoplex PIF, by contrast, enables the simultaneous detection of these two bacteria in a single reaction tube.
